Dec 5 - I’m trying
to get the lay of the land as I descend from the Rocky Mountains. I’ll be entering the uplands Missouri Plateau
that stretches across the southeast corner of Alberta and the southwest corner
of Saskatchewan, as well as across the Great American Desert of the upper Missouri
River, especially Montana & the Dakotas.
Historically, this region was
considered unsuitable for agriculture. The terrain of the Missouri Plateau features
low hummocky, undulating, rolling hills, potholes, and grasslands.

Although my
route doesn’t take me directly to this old fort, it hints at some historical
context for the area.
