May 8 – The Maple
Ridge Store is a convenience store and a hub for community life. In addition to basic groceries, convenience
items, BBQ propane tank exchange, dry cleaning drop off, & a pay phone, they
advertise “The Best Meat on the North Shore!” (of Lake Huron). In
the fall, they cut wild game (deer & moose) for hunters, and in most
seasons they custom cut & package meats for delivery to the nearby
communities of Thessalon, Iron Bridge & Blind River. At the
Maple Ridge Store, you can hear about all kinds of community news.

Emergency
Preparedness Week (May 1-7) just ended.
This is a Canada-wide initiative to increase awareness of individual and
family preparedness. The people of
Ontario face all kinds of emergencies, from ice storms and power outages to
tornadoes and industrial accidents, and they will face more in the future. The theme this year is “#PrepareYourSelfie”. Take a “selfie” to show how you’re prepared
for an emergency, then share it on social media using #PrepareYourSelfie to
advise family and friends to do so too!
Everyone is encouraged to reach out to neighbors, family, & friends
who may be vulnerable or unable to support themselves during an emergency.
